PMC General Meeting
Experience the magic of the gray whale migration with guaranteed sightings and no seasickness!
Have you seen our “local” gray whales? If you have spotted a spout at the beach between Jan-May, chances are you have seen a gray whale! These whales are a real success story, with their population making a total recovery from whaling! However, gray whales still face a variety of obstacles in their migration and their survival. Come and join us for a slideshow presentation to learn more about cetacean biology and research, the gray whale migration, and how to differentiate between the other dolphin and whale populations found locally!
Nicole Larson
has worked as a naturalist with the Oceanic Society since 2004, both in Belize and locally. Locally, she leads whale watching trips out of Pillar Point Harbor each winter/spring to view the Gray whale migration, and in summer/fall they head out to the Farallones in search of Blue Whales and Humpbacks. Nicole is currently working with the San Francisco chapter of the American Cetacean Society and helped develop and co-teaches a new Naturalist Training Course for the SF Bay Area. She holds a Master’s in Coastal Environmental Management from Duke University and a Bachelor’s in Marine Biology from UC Santa Cruz. A former marine science curriculum developer with the Lawrence Hall of Science at UC Berkeley, she has developed her own marine science education programs, and works in classrooms throughout the Bay Area educating youth about whales and marine ecology.
